Lion Guardians

The first grant was awarded to the innovative Lion Guardians program, which in just a few years, has done an amazing job of protecting lions in Kenya where others have failed. Their approach - to hire Maasai warriors who traditionally demonstrate their bravery by killing a lion and train them instead to work with their fellow tribesmen to build support for lion conservation - has virtually eliminated the killing of lions in areas where the program is active. With the help of Wildlife Guardians, this program is able to maintain its core program in the Amboseli ecosystem but also expand its efforts in two other parts of East Africa. can now expand its efforts into other parts of East Africa.
